Our promise, in short

No account, no email, no name required. Your journal never leaves your phone.

You can use Closer to God without signing up. We never ask for your email address or real name in the app, we don't use advertising or tracking tools, and we never sell your data.

1. What stays on your phone only

These are stored on your device and are never sent to us:

• The first name you may enter during onboarding (optional)
• Everything you write in your journal and reflections
• Your saved verses, saved questions and settings
• Downloaded audio and offline content
• Your reminder times (reminders are scheduled on your phone; we don't use push notification services)

If you uninstall the app or use Delete my data, this information is gone. We can't recover it, because we never had it.

2. What reaches our servers

To make memberships and progress work, the app uses an anonymous account: a random ID created on your device. It isn't linked to your name, email address or phone number. Stored against that ID:

• Membership status — Free, Monthly, Annual or Lifetime, when it started, and whether it came from a store purchase or a promotional code.
• Progress events — that a lesson was completed (which module, XP earned, date), that a journal entry was written (the date, which prompt, and the length of the entry — never its text), and stories you completed.
• Gift codes — if you bought a Lifetime membership and claim the gift code that comes with it, which code was assigned to your anonymous ID.
• Promotional codes — if you redeem one, which code was used and when.

Like any online service, our hosting providers record technical information such as IP addresses in their server logs for security and to keep the service running.

3. Purchases

Payments are handled entirely by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play) under their own privacy policies. We never see or store your card details, name or billing address.

We use RevenueCat to confirm and manage memberships. RevenueCat receives your anonymous ID and your purchase records from Apple or Google (such as the product, price, country and store transaction identifiers), and tells our server which membership is active.

4. Scripture text

All Bible text in the app is from the Berean Standard Bible and is included in the app. If you choose the King James Version in settings, the daily verse is fetched from bible-api.com, which, like any website, sees your IP address when the request is made.

5. The website

If you join our launch waitlist on closertogod.app, we store the email address you give us and use it only to tell you about the launch and send any launch offer we promised. You can unsubscribe at any time. Our website may use cookies; you can manage them under Cookie Preferences on the site.

6. Why we process data (legal bases)

For users in the EU, EEA and UK, we rely on:

• Performance of a contract — providing the app, your progress and the membership you bought.
• Legitimate interests — keeping the service secure and preventing misuse of promotional and gift codes.
• Consent — the waitlist email, and the optional name you choose to enter (which stays on your phone).

7. Who we share data with

We use a small number of service providers, each only for the purpose stated:

• Supabase — Anonymous ID, membership status, progress events, gift and promotional code records. Database and hosting (servers in the EU, Paris).
• RevenueCat — Anonymous ID and purchase records. Managing memberships.
• Apple / Google — Purchases. App stores and payment processing (as independent controllers).
• bible-api.com — IP address, only if you choose the KJV. Fetching the KJV daily verse.
• Hostinger — Waitlist emails. Email hosting for friends@closertogod.app.

We don't sell or "share" personal information for advertising, as those terms are defined in US state privacy laws. Some providers are based in the United States; where data leaves the EU, it's protected by the provider's standard contractual clauses.

8. How long we keep it

• App data on our servers is kept until you delete it with Delete my data in the app (Profile), or ask us to.
• Waitlist emails are kept until launch plus a reasonable follow-up period, or until you unsubscribe, whichever comes first.

9. Deleting your data

Open Profile → Delete my data in the app. This permanently erases, at once:

• your progress, membership record and anonymous account on our servers,
• your customer record at RevenueCat,
• everything stored by the app on your phone.

A membership you bought stays with your Apple or Google account; you can get it back with Restore Purchases. You can also ask us to delete your data by emailing friends@closertogod.app — include your Support ID from the Profile screen so we can find it.

10. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you have the right to access, correct, delete or receive a copy of your data, to object to or restrict processing, and to withdraw consent at any time. Users in the EU, EEA and UK can also lodge a complaint with their national data protection authority. To use any of these rights, email friends@closertogod.app with your Support ID.

11. Children

Closer to God is not directed at children under 13, or under the minimum age of digital consent in your country, and we don't knowingly collect their personal data. If you believe a child has provided personal data, contact us and we'll delete it.

12. Security

We restrict access to our databases, encrypt data in transit, and keep personal data to a minimum. No online service can guarantee absolute security, but we'll address any vulnerability promptly.

13. Changes

We'll update the date at the top whenever this policy changes, and point out material changes in the app.
