Privacy Policy — Closer to God

Closer to God ("we," "us," "the app") is an independent project based in Sweden [update to the registered company name and legal form once formed]. This policy explains what information we collect, why, and what rights you have over it — under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and applicable Swedish law.

1. What we collect

In the app

• A first name (optional). If you enter one during onboarding, it's stored on your device to personalize your experience. We don't require it, and it isn't linked to any external identity.
• An anonymous device identifier. The app generates a random ID stored on your device (not tied to your name, email, or any account) so your lesson progress, streaks, prayers, and journal entries can sync and work offline.
• Your activity in the app: lessons completed, journal entries you write, prayers marked as prayed, streak history, and which stories or questions you've explored. Stored against your anonymous device ID, not your identity.
• Subscription status: whether you're on the Free or Premium tier, and when you became Premium — needed to unlock the features you've paid for.

Through payments

If you subscribe to Premium, payment is handled entirely by Apple App Store, Google Play, or our subscription-management partner, RevenueCat. We never see or store your card details. RevenueCat may receive a device/purchase identifier to validate your subscription status.

On the website

Email address, if you join our launch waitlist. Used solely to notify you when the app launches and to send your promised launch offer. We won't use it for anything else without asking you first.

What we don't collect

• We don't currently use analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs.
• We don't ask for your exact location, contacts, photos, or device permissions beyond what's needed for audio playback and offline storage.

2. Why we process this data (legal basis)

• Providing the app's core features (saving your progress, letting Premium work) — performance of a contract with you.
• The optional name field — your consent, given by choosing to enter it.
• Waitlist emails — your consent, given by submitting the form.
• Fraud/abuse prevention (e.g. preventing promo code misuse) — our legitimate interest in keeping the app fair and functional.

You can withdraw consent at any time (see Section 5).

3. Who we share data with

We use a small number of service providers ("processors") to run the app. We don't sell your data, ever.

• Supabase — App activity, journal entries, progress data. Our backend database/hosting.
• RevenueCat — Subscription/purchase status. Managing Premium subscriptions.
• Apple / Google — Payment details, purchase records. App store payment processing.
• Hostinger — Waitlist emails sent to friends@closertogod.app. Our email hosting.

Each of these providers is contractually required to protect your data and only use it to provide their service to us.

4. How long we keep it

• App activity tied to your device ID is kept for as long as you use the app. You can request deletion at any time (Section 5).
• Waitlist emails are kept until launch plus a reasonable follow-up period, or until you unsubscribe — whichever comes first.

5. Your rights (GDPR)

Because we operate in Sweden/the EU, you have the right to:

• Access the data we hold about you
• Correct inaccurate data
• Delete your data ("right to be forgotten")
• Restrict or object to certain processing
• Data portability — get a copy of your data in a usable format
• Withdraw consent at any time, without affecting processing done before withdrawal
• Lodge a complaint with your national data protection authority — in Sweden, the Integritetsskyddsmyndigheten (IMY)

Since most of your app activity is tied to an anonymous device ID rather than your name or email, we may ask you to confirm your device ID to locate your data. To exercise any of these rights, email friends@closertogod.app.

6. Children's privacy

Closer to God is not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age of digital consent in your country), and we don't knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has used the app and provided personal data, contact us and we'll delete it.

7. Security

We take reasonable technical measures to protect your data, including restricting access to our databases. As with any online service, we can't guarantee absolute security, but we're committed to addressing vulnerabilities promptly.

8. Changes to this policy

We'll update the "last updated" date above whenever this policy changes, and note significant changes here or via the app if they materially affect your rights.
