About the founder
Old words. New meaning.
Meet Isak — the solo creator of Closer to God, a Bible study app built for skeptics and believers alike.

Hi, I'm Isak
A childhood faith, a curious adulthood, and the same human ache.
I grew up inside the Jehovah's Witness faith. Later, school taught me the Christian tradition from the outside in. Years after that, travel introduced me to Buddhism — a different language for the same human ache: why am I here, and what do I do with the pain and the wonder of it?
I didn't build Closer to God because I have it all figured out. I built it because I don't — and because I noticed I wasn't alone in that.
“I made the app I wished existed — an honest bridge between an ancient text and a modern struggle.”
Why we built it
The most quoted book on earth, and almost nobody understands it.
Somewhere between a childhood faith I was handed and a worldview I had to build myself, I kept running into the same problem: the Bible is one of the most quoted, referenced, and argued-about books in human history — and almost nobody I knew actually understood it. Not really. Not in a way that touched their Tuesday afternoon, their 2am anxiety, their grief, their doubt.
So I made the app I wished existed. Closer to God takes old words — verses, parables, prayers — and asks a simple question: what does this actually mean for someone living right now? Not a sermon. Not a lecture. Just an honest bridge between an ancient text and a modern struggle.
It's built like the apps you already open every day — bite-sized, engaging, a little like a language app, but for meaning instead of vocabulary. Daily lessons. Real audio stories from people who found their own light through hard seasons. Reflections for the stuff life throws at you without warning. And honest answers to the questions people actually Google at 2am — does God exist, why does He allow suffering, what happens when I die — without pretending those questions are simple, and without demanding you believe anything to ask them.
Who this is for
Built for skeptics and believers, equally.
I'm not trying to convert anyone. I'm not trying to defend anything either. Whatever brought you here, you're welcome exactly as you are.
Raised in faith, quietly drifted
You know the words. You're not sure what they mean to you anymore.
Curious from the outside
You never had faith and just want to understand what all the fuss is about.
Deep in doubt at 2am
You're searching for something — anything — that feels honest.
A believer who wants it alive again
You want faith that feels present on a Tuesday, not routine.
A solo project
One person. Made with care.
Closer to God is a one-person project. I design it, build it, and write it myself — which means every lesson, every audio story, and every “what does this actually mean” answer has been thought through by someone who's genuinely wrestled with it. Not a committee. Not a content mill. It's still growing, one honest question at a time.
If that sounds like a place you'd want to explore — old words, new meaning, no pressure — I built it for you.
